Sony to supply Apple Computer with portable PCs
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp agrees to make portable computers for Apple Computer Inc. The agreement is reported in Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Japanese business newspaper. Apple Computer will not comment, and a spokeswoman for Sony will not say whether Sony plans to make laptop-sized or notebook-sized machines. Apple, which recently agreed to cooperate with IBM, is apparently shifting further away from the company's traditional proprietary strategy. The new agreement will benefit Sony, which has had only a small presence in the computer business. Apple will benefit because of Sony's strength in miniaturization.
