IBM is expected to unveil expansion in capabilities of CallPath software
Article Abstract:
IBM will announce enhancements to CallPath telecommunications software that are expected to allow the software to support telephone switches other than those made by Rolm. IBM is also expected to announce several new CallPath features and the outline for a set of protocols for companies to write software for CallPath. Callers to private branch exchanges (PBXs) are identified by CallPath, which automatically pulls information about them from an IBM minicomputer or mainframe. Although CallPath currently works only with Rolm PBXs, industry executives expect to see IBM to extend support to PBXs made by Northern Telecom Inc., and AT and T, among others. The enhancement is also expected to allow CallPath to work with outgoing calls as well as incoming calls. IBM declines to comment on speculation, but says only that its May 15, 1990, press conference will include 'a major telecommunications announcement.'
