IBM shuffles Europe operation's top management
Article Abstract:
IBM reorganizes its European operations by reassigning senior managers Pierre Barazer and Vincenzo Damiani to new positions in the organization. Barazer's new position is administrator-director general of IBM Europe. His responsibilities include personnel, corporate communications and commercial relations, as well as other organizational issues. Damiani will direct European marketing operations and is responsible for supervising sales changes, including the setting and monitoring of autonomous regional sales goals. IBM has been trying since 1990 to change the way it conducts business in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Profits have declined and sales have been growing slowly. Net regional income has fallen 57 percent to $1.26 billion. IBM France is a particular target for growth. The French subsidiary's net income fell 61 percent to $164 million during 1991.

ICL unveils a massive reorganization to combat trouble in the PC business
Article Abstract:
Fujitsu-ICL Systems announces a significant corporate restructuring plan that will force the company to reduce its ranks by 1,300 employees and refocus its target markets for products with higher profit margins. The announced ICL reorganization is the latest in a series of dire financial reports issued by significant computer vendors, including recent reports of disappointing sales from Compaq and Escom AG. ICL will spin off select factories and combine its unsuccessful PC marketing and development division with its more profitable Fujitsu counterpart, with Fujitsu controlling 80% of the combined assets. The revised ICL will concentrate on providing services and software solutions, an approach that would have produced 2.59 billion pounds sterling of revenue in 1995 and an operating profit of 26 million pounds sterling.
