Identifying the vital few using the European Foundation for Quality Management model
Article Abstract:
The European Foundation for Quality Management model can help corporations identify the crucial parameters needed for successful quality management. The model allows firms to develop questionnaires based on several levels of criteria, and provides information on the outcomes of process variations. It prevents management from over-reacting to variation and thus waste resources.

A survey of manufacturing firms in Ireland showed that most employ quality initiatives and do so based on company size. More than half of those surveyed that use fewer than three initiatives are companies with fewer than 50 workers. About 80% of initiatives deployed have been launched recently, between 1992 and 1998, and respondents cited no specific implementation order.
