In search of the next 'hot box'
Article Abstract:
Silicon Valley is focusing much interest in BlueArc Corp.'s "hot box" which retrieves data files at almost 10 times as fast as competitors in an answer to the problem of keeping up with high speed data networks. The company claims that perhaps 100 more customers can access the box than other storage appliances. The box with the Silicon Server design can manage up to 200 trillion bytes of data. Company founder Enrico Pesatori has shipped a few samples of the box and it will be sold for about $100,000, competitive with Network Appliance's model.
