Independent? Don't bank on it
Article Abstract:
The implications of the recent tax scandals surrounding Robert Gerard, a board member of Reserve Bank of Australia are discussed. Gerard was appointed by Treasurer, Peter Costello. Though RBA is supposed to be independent of government, off and on government puts its representative on the board making RBA lose its independence. These representatives often have conflicting and dubious records.
