There is still uncertainty surrounding the process by which Cable & Wireless Optus plans to transfer ownership to Singapore Telecommunications. The Foreign Investment Review Board has delayed approval, creating nervousness among investors. The merged firm is likely to receive an index rating, according to Steven Thompson, director of Focus Investment Management, but this rating could be below the current Optus weighting of 2.1%.
