Individual growth and team enhancement: moving toward a new model of career development
Article Abstract:
Business organizations can reduce conflicts between individual career development and team-based work by implementing a team-based career system. In such a system, team members serve as role models for one another, behaviors contributing to team performance as well as individual development are rewarded, training opportunities for team and individual growth are considered, and team members have the freedom to move laterally within the group. The benefits of this approach are discussed. Guidelines for selecting teams for team career systems and for implementing this system are also presented.

The overtime rebellion: symptom of a bigger problem?
Article Abstract:
Overtime attempts to accomplish only the short-term needs to the detriment of work quality and the overall health of the company's workers. Companies are advised to hire employees with multiple skills who can perform a variety of functions or to cross-train employees so as not to require overtime. Another technique is to have flexible managers who can evaluate hiring practices and implement those which best accommodate the needs of employees.
