Insurance (life) industry
Article Abstract:
The life insurance industry remains below average on Value Line's timeliness ranking despite favorable earnings growth in 1st half 1995. The industry will continue to generate sales in the low single digits in the years to come. Its attractiveness lies in its predictability: investors can count on 10% growth annually. A few stocks in the group do have excellent growth potential - The Equitable, for example.

Article Abstract:
The stock prices of insurance companies, especially those specializing in variable annuities, lost ground in the 3d qtr 1998. Companies that focus on acquisitions also performed poorly, and analysts predict no immediate improvement. Conservative investors may profit in 1999 from dividend and earnings growth of sound companies, such as AFLAC, which sells cancer insurance.
