Insurance (life) industry
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of mergers in the life insurance industry in early 1999, the largest being the purchase of Transamerica by the Aegon Insurance Group. However, this merger and acquisition activity in the industry has had little effect on life insurance stocks and the industry remains fragmented. The industry is also changing in the US to a fee-based service, with the variable annuity and life insurance sectors, which have much in common with mutual funds, the fastest growing segments.

Insurance (life) industry
Article Abstract:
Life insurance industry stocks did not keep up with the stock market advances in 1998 and the declining interest rates had little impact on the industry during the year. The difficulties of making money in the life insurance industry have become greater, especially in the annuity sector, and life insurance is more labor and capital intensive than banking. There is little long-term potential to life insurance stocks although there are several that have above-average timeliness.
