Interval coverage in multiclass queues using batch mean estimates
Article Abstract:
The performance of the fixed, sample-size, batch-mean procedure for creating confidence intervals in multiclass queueing systems is examined. It is found that serial correlation between customers of the same class, for a multiclass M/M/1, drops to zero with the growth in the number of customer classes. The batch-mean estimator coverage for a simple queue with multiple customer classes is tested empirically. It is hypothesized that monoclass systems are inferior to confidence interval coverage for batch-mean estimates in multiclass M/M/1 queues with a fixed number of observations per class. Evidence supporting this proposition is generated by a series of simulation experiments on the M/M/1 for different traffic intensities, run lengths and batch sizes.
