Intuit helps you with future finances, but overlooks debt
Article Abstract:
The computer software industry has become infatuated with developing titles with Internet capabilities, but it is the standard floppy disk and CD-ROM software that the majority of users still desire and need. Intuit is likewise integrating Internet functionality into its extremely successful Quicken line of financial software, offering an array of electronic banking features. But Intuit also continues to develop and release Quicken for standard methods of use and distribution. Intuit's $40 Quicken Financial Planner 2.0 personal finance software provides the best combination of useful features and ease of use. Planner primarily provides guidance for retirement accounts, but the software offers innovative sections on college, life insurance and mutual fund financial planning. However, Planner fails to provide modules that consider emergency medical fees and excessive debt.

These programs won't cut taxes - just make them easier to file
Article Abstract:
Tax preparation programs, such as Block Financial Software's TaxCut and Intuit's TurboTax, are sophisticated programs, but should not be substituted for professional advice in a complex tax filing. Tax preparation programs present tips that will help prevent the user from making obvious mistakes and mathematical errors. TaxCut and TurboTax cost from $35 to $40 and are available in Windows, DOS and Macintosh versions. Both companies publish CD-ROM versions with video and audio extras. Each program provides two methods for completing taxes, by interview or by filling out the forms on-screen. Some experts say TaxCut's interview process is less clearly worded, but if customer service is important, users may prefer the Block program.
