The Collegiate Professional Basketball League, not playing until November 1999, signed a contract with Lycos Inc. to be the name of one of the teams in exchange for backing and services. The men's league has signed a three-year deal with Lycos to call the Boston team Team Lycos. The price tag is about $1.2 million. One of the services will be a Website for the league. The league will continue to court sponsors for each of its other seven teams; even a league name could be "bought."
