Jodee Rich has learned many financial lessons during his sabbatical since the demise of his personal computer distribution company Imagineering and the start of his new venture One.Tel. The Packer and Murdoch families invested $709 million into One.Tel, and Rich reduced his 50% shareholding to 30%, while Packer and Murdoch each took 20%. One. Tel plans to build a national mobile network and increase gross margins from 35% to about 65%.

The privatization of Telstra, the Australian telephone company, must balance sound fiscal policy and the desires of voters. Voters want less expensive and more extensive telecommunications services especially in the local call market. A decrease in Telstra revenue could decrease the attractiveness of the privatization.
