Las Vegas will shift its promotional strategy to emphasize entertainment as well as gambling

Las Vegas has earmarked millions of dollars for an ad campaign intended to reposition itself as a world class entertainment destination. The city will be going head to head for tourist dollars with other cities such as New York, Paris, Orlando and San Francisco. The campaign is based on analysis done by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's longtime agency R&R Advertising. Las Vegas is now competing with many casinos that have been developed elsewhere in recent years. The city will continue to promote gaming as it's still the number one destination for gambling.

American in $124 million cash deal for Reno Air
Article Abstract:
American will take Reno Air under its wing in a $124 million acquisition that will end the latter's days as a low-fare airline. The two have had a marketing partnership since 1993 when American closed its hub in San Jose, California. That makes it easier for American to reestablish a presence on the West Coast. AMR would like to close the deal in early-'99, however negotiations with the pilots and their unions could take time to work through.
