Article Abstract:
It is not well-known that in his book 1984, George Orwell was prophesying not Big Brother, but rather a Big Brother. He realized that one day society would be swamped by inconvenient technological conveniences, for example twenty-four hour ATMs that never seem to work in bad weather or after 10 p.m. With apologies to Orwell, several predictions are submitted: July 14, 1984; The first computerized obscene phone caller arrested in New York for delivering obscene messages to an estimated thirty- seven million women; February 12, 1991; In Chicago a personal computer has filed suit for custody of its thirteen-year-old user. The child's parents have not decided if they will contest the suit.

Article Abstract:
Computer programmers are popularly perceived as nerds by the general public. A nationally syndicated columnist recently suggested that programmers be fitted with a flashing device, ala fire-flies, because they are shy and cannot get a date without electronic assistance. That view was reinforced after a distraught Houston programmer was arrested last year for setting fire to five local single bars after he could not pick up a date. Programmers cannot even develop a decent bumper sticker. No one wants to date a guy with 'Data Processors do it in nano-seconds' advertised on the grill.

Lighter Bytes: New Language--Same Old Song
Article Abstract:
A new language called EXCUSUS is perhaps the single most powerful language yet discovered. It totally reverses the negative trend in society to think of computers as perfect and humans as imperfect. EXCUSUS functions perfectly every time.
