A music critic describes his current fascination with literary works by the artist Fairfield Porter. When he first encounters an artist, his enthusiasm is boundless and he is eager to read all works by the particular writers. As his interest in one author wanes, he finds another author with which to repeat the pattern.

Article Abstract:
Allen Drury's 1959 book 'Advise and Consent' was was one of the greatest political novels to be set in Washington DC, but the genre that book spawned seems to have faded. Vietnam, Watergate and the fall of Communism have all made political novels less appealing to the general public.
