Lotus to unveil delayed 1-2-3 for Macintosh
Article Abstract:
Lotus Development Corp will release its spreadsheet for the Macintosh microcomputer in the week of Jun 3, 1991. Lotus has not disclosed the exact time of the product's release, but the spreadsheet will be shown at the company's shareholder meeting, scheduled for Monday, Jun 3, and Apple's CEO John Sculley is expected to attend. The Macintosh 1-2-3's delay has been a source of ridicule for Lotus. Stewart Alsop, editor of the influential PC Letter, has called the Mac 1-2-3 product the 'all-time leader' in vaporware, saying that he has kept Lotus on his 'vaporist' hit parade for 46 months. He notes that the delay was costly, losing revenue for Lotus and allowing Microsoft Corp to dominate the market for Mac applications. Early reviews are upbeat for the new product.

Lotus's founder shows first work of new company
Article Abstract:
Mitchell D. Kapor, founder and former chairman of Lotus Development Corp, now manages his second company, ON Technology Inc. On Jan 22, 1990, Kapor showed his new company's first product, called ON Location. The new program works to help computer users index and search large amounts of data stored on a hard disk or other storage device. Kapor's company will target the market for software that runs on Apple Macintosh microcomputers. People who have seen the new product say it is a good one: a market researcher calls the product 'terrific, pragmatic and easy to learn'. A representative of a software company says the package is 'a useful, well-engineered utility - but it's not going to set the world on fire.'

Lotus set back in developing 1-2-3 for Apple
Article Abstract:
Lotus Development Corp encounters a setback in efforts to produce a version of the 1-2-3 spreadsheet for the Macintosh microcomputer. Such a product was promised in 1987, and many analysts expected to see it in 1990, but Lotus insiders now say it will not ship before 1991. In Dec 1989, Lotus quietly replaced the leader of its Macintosh team and redefined the team's mission. Lotus's difficulties with the Macintosh product mar an otherwise remarkable comeback: in 1989, Lotus delivered a long-delayed edition of 1-2-3 for IBM PCs and compatibles, pushing sales and earnings up, driving up the value of Lotus's stock.
