Machine tool industry
Article Abstract:
A decrease in the automobile industry's production during 1996 could have serious effects on the machine tool industry that relies on car makers as its largest and best sales source. Export sales helped the machine tool industry reach its highest year for orders in 1995, the best results in 16 years. There will be a consistent demand for retooling equipment, especially metal cutting and reforming equipment, which should attract long-term investors but short-term investors could be hampered by some expected ups and downs during 1996.

Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
Machinery and machine-tool companies have posted good profits since 1990 with the strong comeback of the US economy from the recession of the 1990s. The machinery market is also expected to be stable in 1997 and improve after that. Foreign demand for American machinery will be strong from 1999 to 2001 with good markets in Latin America and the Pacific region. These stocks are good investments for the 1999 to 2001 time frame.

Machine tool industry
Article Abstract:
Machine tool orders increased almost 11% in the first three quarters of 1995. A weak US dollar and an improved European economy have increased exports and retooling has continued in the US auto industry. Sales prospects for 1995 and 1996 are good with a 19% increase in backlog orders. Earnings are volatile with cost overruns and product development costs, however. These stocks are not for conservative investors.
