Machinery (construction & mining)
Article Abstract:
The construction equipment industry and mining machinery industry are in good shape economically but may have to develop greater international marketing to compensate for slow growing domestic economic conditions. Although foreign demand for construction equipment and mining machinery is spotty, US manufacturers are in a better position to compete in global markets than they have been in past years. Worrisome investors should refrain from buying these industries' securities but good 1st qtr 1996 earnings provide incentive for less scary investors.

Machinery (construction & mining)
Article Abstract:
The construction and mining machinery industries will grow in 1995 and 1996. Overseas sales will offset decreased demand in domestic markets, due to the weaker dollar and the long-term economic rise in Eastern Europe. Mining and construction machinery stocks fell in the 1st qtr of 1995, even though earnings were good. These stocks may not be suitable for investors unwilling to take risks, but several are timely for 1995.

Machinery (construction & mining)
Article Abstract:
Demand for construction and mining machinery is increasing overseas while growth is slowing in the US market. This industry is now more competitive with lower break-even points, smaller debt, and extensive restructuring. Earnings for the 3rd qtr of 1995 were positive, and investors have a buying opportunity with selling pressures. These stocks are earnings sensitive and those with overseas exposure are favored.
