Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
The machinery industry is expected to be strong during 1997, after a good year in 1995 and a strong second half during 1996. International sales, acquisitions and mergers, and low stock prices are spurring industry activity. Commercial airlines are expecting orders to be strong, as this sector is in the middle of an upswing in activity. Oil and gas production are also doing well, which will boost the machinery industry's revenues. The machinery industry is expected to follow the broader market averages during 1997 and into the first part of 1998.

Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
Restructuring, rising European orders, and high domestic demand have increased earnings for the machinery industry in 1995. Improved efficiency and plant consolidation are among factors expected to contribute to earnings in 1996. Market share is expected to increase in the Far East and Europe as well. For the next three to five years investors need to exercise caution, however, due to the cyclical nature of the industry.
