Major new products: what distinguishes the winners in the chemical industry?
Article Abstract:
The success of new products in chemical industry was analyzed based onnew product performance measures done in 21 major chemical firms in four countries. The relationship among performance measures were presented and it was inferred that about 66% of 103 projects were classed as successes. It was concluded that the success of new products can be mainly attributed to differentiation. Other factors include nonproduct variables such as technical support and customer service, synergies, familiarity and product innovativeness.
