In 1996, a World's Fair to be held in cyberspace
Article Abstract:
Plans for developing a cyberspace-based world's fair have received a hearty endorsement from the Clinton Administration. The endeavor, entitled The Internet 1996 World Exposition, is being organized by the Internet Multicasting Service in Washington. The proposed exposition will include the distribution of cultural, government, entertainment, educational and technological information over the Internet. Participants that do not already have access to the Internet via their own PCs will be able to access the event from a network of public 'Internet planetariums' in cities around the world. VP Al Gore has cited the event as an opportunity for people to get a glimpse of the not-too-distant future, where people around world will be able to communicate via a global network. Contibutors to the event include SSDS Consulting and Quantum Corp, which are donating their expertise and equipment.

Prodigy wins shootout at the on-line corral
Article Abstract:
Prodigy Services Co beat out rivals America Online and Compuserve at the Internet World trade show in a competition to determine which of the major online information service providers offers the best access to the Internet at the most reasonable price. Prodigy is considered to offer the best balance of access, features and price although two competitors did not compete at the trade show. Compuserve was criticized because of its limited e-mail capabilities and because users are charged on a per-message basis after a certain number of messages. Compuserve also limits users to access speeds of 9,600 bps while other services offer 14,400 bps access speeds. America Online lacks a browsing capability for the World Wide Web, lacks the ability to post original articles online and is also the most expensive of the online services.
