Software has been recognized as a global solution that has pervaded even the project management profession. Project management software, including Web-enabled project management software, allow applications that have spurred the growth of project managers. This growth is also observed in the software industry, as program developers continue to develop better products that address practically all business concerns. This symbiotic relationship is projected to continue and reshape the future of the project management profession.

Article Abstract:

CFOs resemble Hal 9000, the computer featured in the movie '2001, A Space Odyssey.' Both are extremely intelligent, with almost human personalities and believe that they have the ultimate responsibility for the mission's success. A hypothetical situation is presented to illustrate the difficulties project managers confront in dealing with CFOs during the course of a project. The scenario is based on a real-life situation gleaned from notes in a large project's managers' meeting.

The development of a software program to assist managers facing such situations must integrate the appropriate work breakdown structure. The program must also consider staff support in developing solutions for potential problem areas. The product must likewise be able to pass preliminary design review to ensure effective software design and reliability.
