Let Us Pray
Article Abstract:
President Reagan, possibly for political reasons, endorses a proposed constitutional amendment which would allow prayer in public schools. Although there is strong support for the amendment among fundamentalists, mainline Christians and Jews oppose any constitutional change. Legal issues associated with such an amendment are complex. The United States Supreme Court appears to be moving in a more conservative direction on the interpretation of church and state separation.
