Maxwell Business Systems' high flight
Article Abstract:
Maxwell Business Systems Pres. Sassan Chakamian explains that his company is an offshoot of Maxwell Technologies that was formed when management realized that there is a market for job costing systems. Its parent company needed a job costing system but could not find one in the market so it just acquired a general-purpose accounting system and hired a subcontractor to customize the software and transform it into a job costing system. After realizing that there is demand for such a system, the company rewrote the software and started selling the revised, more general version. The company created Maxwell Business Systems to market and sell the system, which is now known as the Job Cost Accounting and Management Information System. Chakamian says it is important that companies to use a job cost accounting system to monitor its activities and find out its spendings on a particular project.

Developing a timeline for success
Article Abstract:
Timeline CEO John Calahan explains that his decision to partner with Microsoft is driven by the need to establish connections with the largest companies in the software world. The oligopolistic development in the software industry means that those who refuse to establish partnerships with the three or four major companies that would provide the core software will fail to succeed. This accounts for Timeline Inc.'s role as a development partner with Microsoft for the database management system Microsoft Access. Aside from partnering with large companies, Timeline has also developed links with consultants and software companies with vast knowledge of management accounting that are willing to apply Timeline reporting products. Calahan says this will help ensure that controllers, management accountants and financial managers have the right tools to perform their tasks.

Sun on the rise: Systems Union founder and CEO John Pemberton sheds light on his company's global success
Article Abstract:
Systems Union CEO John Pemberton founded his company in 1981 and has since built it up into a multinational enterprise with offices in 13 countries and 160 distributors across the world. The success of Systems Union is largely attributable to Pemberton's foresight in recognizing the need for a software system that could help companies standardize their international transactions into one ledger. Pemberton's answer to this problem was the development of SunSystems software, which is Systems Union's primary product line. This financial management software is a multiplatform suite of applications that allows users to handle multiple currencies and languages. Pemberton discusses his company's growth, its expansion outside the UK and his plans for developing Systems Union into a globalized financial applications specialist.
