Demand for aluminum is expected to continue rising about 5% annually in spite of the Asian downturn. Alcoa and Reynolds Metals reported good earnings in the first three qtrs of 1998, in spite of low prices and high imports. Investors are advised to avoid copper mining stocks, which are not expected to rise in the near term.
