Microsoft Money takes the lead in software for personal finances
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Money offers more features, better phone support, and a more stable product than its rival Quicken, made by Intuit. Quicken still has a 70% market share, and makes a version of its personal finance program for the Apple Macintosh. But for the same price (about $70), the consumer gets a well thought out, better quality package with Microsoft. In addition to tracking bank accounts, paying bills, loans, and monitoring investments, Money has well integrated financial planning features.

Quicken and Money can help you wade through your finances
Article Abstract:
Intuit's Quicken Deluxe 1999 personal finance software still holds the edge when compared to Microsoft Money 99 Financial Suite. Money has been greatly enhanced by the transformation in design to a Web-centric financial information-services program, incorporating Web-site links and Web design and navigation tools. Quicken is being transformed as well, but seems trapped somewhere between the old and new design formats. Quicken wins out in two major areas: ease of data entry and tax planning and projection. Money's Lifetime Planner is better for retirement planning. Money also offers a Debt Reduction Planner and Budget Planner. Both packages perform central functions well including tracking and recording all financial transactions and employing this information to make financial decisions and the ability to pay bills and get bank statement-downloads electronically. Both packages also claim to be immune to Y2K problems.
