Mistaken perceptions: cases and consequences

The author refers to the work of Mezias and Starbuck regarding managers' perceptions and says that their research is reminiscent of evidence on ordinary citizens and politicians that generally display a weak grip on basic facts. Four perspectives on managers are discussed, including managers as problem-solvers in novel situations.

Article Abstract:
The author says that the research of Starbuck and Mezias is not managerially relevant because it does not look at the origin of perceptual inaccuracies among managers. It also needs to examine what the consequences of the inaccuracies are in practice.
