Mixed reactions to merger

An Australian perspective on the proposed merger between the Big Six accounting firms Ernst and Young and KPMG Peat Marwick L.L.P. is presented. Deloitte Australia CEO Lynn Oldland says his firm is part of a global organization with huge assets and does not need a merger partner. Ferrier Hodgson Sr Partner Tony Hodgson is worried about the fallout from the merger, while Hall Chadwick Sr. Partner Terry Posma is worried that second tier Australian accounting firms will be shut out by the huge global firms.
