5 Airlines in marketing pact to rival Star Alliance
Article Abstract:
American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways, and Australia-based Qantas Airways Ltd. have formed an alliance to challenge the Star Alliance initiated by UAL Corp.'s United Airlines and Deutsche Lufthansa AG. The new alliance called One World will require no regulatory approval. One World will facilitate the participating airlines' access into Asia despite the region's economic downturn.

British Petroleum planning "firm" cuts in emissions
Article Abstract:
British Petroleum Co. (BP) reported recently, plans to cut emissions by 10% of their 1990 levels by 2010. A spokesman for the company said that the 1990 emission levels produced 40 million tons, a figure that would increase by 18 million tons over the the next 12 years if measures to reduce them were not taken. The cuts that BP is planning exceeds those promised by industrialized countries in 1997.
