Beyond.com agrees to buy BuyDirect for $133.7 million

San Francisco-based BuyDirect.com, software seller that has customers who like to download new software, was spun off from CNet Inc. less than a year ago, and is now being purchased by Beyond.com Inc. Beyond.com, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., will pay $133.7 in stock. The company says its customers for the most part prefer to buy packaged software. Beyond.com has supposedly been of interest to Amazon.com for future expansion into the sale of software.
