Tire makers combine as mergers rise in Japan
Article Abstract:
Japan has seen 908 deals take place in the last year, a rise of 35% over the previous year. The deals take the form of joint ventures more so than of mergers and acquisitions. The Goodyear and Sumitomo deal is a good example. Such a structure gives the Japanese firm an infusion of money and other resources without taking away all its independence.
