NYNEX, Bell Atlantic set merger

Approval of the proposed merger between NYNEX Corp and Bell Atlantic Corp would create a telecommunications company worth $51 billion and would be the largest such merger ever. The merger will be accomplished through a stock swap and is expected to result in the loss of 3,000 jobs.

Telecom sale to Italian firm folds

The Italian state telecommunications firm Societa Finaziaria Telefonica backed out of a deal to purchase 25% of the Russian firm Svyazinvest on Dec 25, 1995. The deal had been worth $1.4 billion and would have been the largest foreign investment transaction in Russia.

AT&T announces plan to split apart
