New Profits for NonProfits
Article Abstract:
With federal funding cutbacks increasing, non profits are looking for ways to make ends meet. Some non-profits have begun to hire consultants who help them develop profit centers within the organization to help out with meeting ever rising expenses. Many consultants - even specialities within a specialized field - have sprung up to meet the demand from the non-profit groups. Private industry, however, is protesting the fact that because non-profits have a tax advantage they can compete unfairly in the marketplace. A private industry group is pushing for a change in the tax laws concerning the profitable parts of non-profit organizations. Some consultants, however, are advising their non-profit clients to pay taxes now in order to avoid a lengthy, costly court battle later on.
