Issues are presented concerning the financial assistance which automobile manufacturer Holden has received from the Victorian and Federal Governments to finance the cost of engine plant in Melbourne, Australia. Government aid to industry is discussed.

Rate cuts are not the answer
Article Abstract:
The executive director of the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research in Australia believes that the lean towards cutting interest rates to prevent recession and maintain recent growth rates is wrong. Financial balance in both countries needs to be stabilised and this can be achieved only if share prices decline, and costs and dividend payouts are reduced.

The overly dominant focus on interest rates in microeconomic policy formation might conclude that monetarism is all that matters, irrespective of actual monetarist doctrine. This idea of monetarism is explained with the evidence of changes happened to Keynesian doctrine in mid-1980.
