Nickel flop has mining giant in deep trouble
Article Abstract:
Inco's purchase of Voiseys Bay polymetallic discovery in Newfoundland for $C4.6 billion and the fall of nickel prices has affected the company badly. Inco bought the land in 1998 and there is still controversy over the development. Inco is looking to have a small mine while the government still expects the originally proposed elaborate mine and refining complex. Inco is working on reducing its production cost to deal with its financial difficulties.
