Not all sweet on sugar levy
Article Abstract:
Australia's food and beverages industries are protesting against a levy on domestic sugar that was introduced in 2003 to offer sugar cane growers incentives to diversify into other crops. However, sugar, which used to be US 8 cents a pound at the time is hovering around US17 cents. This price makes any restructuring packages from the government an unattractive option. So the industries are seeking removal of the levy.
