Algerian officials confirmed on Mar 30, 1995, that the government has launched a major offensive against militant rebels such as the Armed Islamic Group. Reports on the number of militants killed range from 300 to 1,300. Several prominent journalists have been killed by the militants.

Croatia launches offensive against Serbs: year-old cease-fire shattered

Troops from Croatia on Jan 22, 1993, attacked a Serbian-held position close to the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The offensive marked the end of a year-old, United Nations-sponsored ceasefire, and could hinder the peace talks being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Army launches offensive against rebels

The military government in Sudan launched an offensive directed at the rebel Sudanese People's Liberation Army, which was trying to prevent the implementation of Islamic law. The government was able to recapture much of the rebel-held lands.
