Open Systems accounting package (version 3)
Article Abstract:
Open Systems is a full-featured accounting program that comes in different versions for single users, multi-users and networks. The program can be run in DOS, UNIX, CP-M and MP-M operating systems, and the program's source code is included in the package, which allows users to customize the program to suit individual needs. The program modules include resource management, accounts payable and receivable, inventory, fixed assets, purchase order, sales order processing, project management, general ledger and report writer. The overall performance of the package is good, although some functions, such as sales order processing, are rather slow. The documentation is excellent, and Open Systems is one of the few microcomputer accounting programs that can be customized by the user. The program requires a hard disk and 256K of memory for single users and 512K for multi-user networks.

Red Wing Accounting Package
Article Abstract:
Red Wing Business Systems Inc's general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable software packages are reviewed. The four-module, 14-diskette package includes sample data. A hard disk and 3.2 megabytes of storage are required to operate the programs. Modules need BASIC to work, except for the general ledger. The Red Wing Series has numerous good features, including the capacity to print reports or view them on screen. Manuals are excellent. The package would be more appealing if direct access to DOS for backups was possible, if it had a better multi-company approach, and if procedures were more consistent.
