Optimal power-of-two replenishment strategies in capacitated general production/distribution networks
Article Abstract:
A capacitated production/distribution network model with specific applications on Material Requirement Planning and Distribution Requirement Planning systems is derived. The model is based on the assumption that demand rates are stationary and deterministic. Likewise, the model is premised on standard stationary cost structures. Hence, the model's capacity constraints include restrictions on production and distribution resources, limited storage space and palletized reorders. A pair of simple algorithms consisting of maximum flow computations linked with the production/distribution network are formulated. These algorithms define the framework for optimal power-of-two replenishment strategies. The model remains valid when tested against alternative solution models such as uncapacitated models.

M-G-c queueing systems with multiple customer classes: characterization and control of achievable performance under nonpreemptive priority rules
Article Abstract:
An M-G-c queueing system is considered which serves a limited number of distinct customer classes. System performance is gauged by the vector of steady-state anticipated waiting times of the customer classes. It is shown that the performance space is a polyhedron, and allows for efficient methods of minimizing any convex function of the performance vector. Linear objectives are found to be minimized under absolute priority rules.
