Packaging & container industry
Article Abstract:
Steady gains for the bottom line are expected in 1999 for the packaging and container industry by virture of acquisitions, improved efficiency, and cost cutting, even though margins have been under pressure from competition. Foreign operations of packaging companies have increased to take advantage of a larger customer base, especially in Europe. However, these stocks are expected to underperform the market in 1999, but some have potential through the years 2001-2003.

Packaging & container industry
Article Abstract:
Modest growth is expected for the packaging and container industry in 1999, as soft international product demand will offset the unit sales and earnings gains for the industry during the year. New product research and development, mergers, and internal restructuring are some of the methods that the industry is using to combat pressures on earnings. These stocks are not timely for 1999, but several have brighter prospects for the next three to five years.
