P&G, in effort to give sales a boost, plans to revamp corporate structure
Article Abstract:
Proctor and Gamble, whose directors have been disappointed with the rate of volume and sales growth at the company, has implemented a major restructuring of its corporate structure. The new plan, which includes a transition from regional business units to product-based global business units, has a goal of doubling sales by the year 2005. Proctor and Gamble has reported that its 1997 sales of $37.2 billion were only a 4% increase over the previous year. The company has reported that it does not anticipate large-scale layoffs but that it will take a one-time restructuring charge.

P&G will make Jager CEO ahead of schedule
Article Abstract:
Proctor and Gamble has announced that it will speed up the promotion of its chief operating officer, Durk I. Jager, to the position of chief executive officer. The move, which is accompanied by major corporate restructuring, was prompted by a threat to the company's growth plans caused by sluggish sales. The new plan involves the elimination of the company's four geographically-based business units, which will be replaced by global units structured around Proctor and Gamble's consumer products.
