Performance appraisal techniques, task types and effectiveness: a contingency approach
Article Abstract:
Different appraisal techniques are required for different types of jobs. Behavior-based procedures are particularly suitable for tasks where knowledge of the transformation process is high and precise performance measures are available. Objective-based techniques, on the other hand, are better applied to intermediate jobs which are high on one of these dimensions and low on the other. Finally, judgment-based techniques are most applicable for jobs where transformation process knowledge is low and precise performance measures are developed.
