Article Abstract:
The Top Managers Programme for local government is a one-year development programme operated by the former Local Government Management Board. There are four main stages, the first two of which involve diagnosing the participant's requirements. The third is a review stage, while the fourth is the formal conclusion. Identifying clear learning goals involves using SYNCHRONY, a 360-degree appraisal instrument. Other diagnostic tools are also used to assist participants in considering their learning and leadership styles and values.

What can be learned using action learning?
Article Abstract:
Action learning techniques provide a means of learning within the workplace in some situations but are not appropriate for all applications. The learning equation (L) is defined as consisting of programmed knowledge (P) and questioning insight (Q), ie. L = P + Q. Didactic learning methods are compared with Action learning methods. Action learning is best suited to areas of work where knowledge is constantly changing and not in areas of functional management.
