Petroleum industry stock prices rose reflecting increased demand from Asian countries. OPEC's production cuts are also expected to help maintain prices. Although timeliness suffers from the industry's cyclical nature, mergers such as Total Fina with Elf Aquitaine and USX-Marathon promise strength in share prices.
