Post merger: integrating the accounting system
Article Abstract:
Data from a Price Waterhouse study revealed that 60% of acquisitions fail, and that half of those failures were the result of post-merger integration problems. The example of Newton Construction Components, Inc (San Jose, CA) illustrates the benefits of the post merger integrating of accounting systems. Newton, a manufacturer of components for contractors in the construction industry, acquired four similar companies in the 1970s and began experiencing problems due to the lack of on-line communications between headquarters and the divisions. Management implemented a post merger accounting systems integration by standardizing operating procedures and creating an integrated computerized accounting information system based on software from Landmark, Inc. The integration improved many aspects of operations, including management information, inventory control, and accounts receivable control.

A healthcare alliance automates claims processing
Article Abstract:
A healthcare alliance in the southeastern region aims to significantly improve its efficiency and reduce its costs by automating its claims processing system. The system that makes this possible, the claims management system (CMS) electronic network, allows the smooth electronic transfer of claims processing data from healthcare providers to insurers. In addition, the alliance uses a practice management system (PMS) for physicians and hospitals as an assistance to individual healthcare providers. Administrators of member clinics and hospitals use the PMS to enter their claims data in a batch and forward the batch file to the alliance network system. The databases generated through the CMS enable smaller insurers to access analytical information normally available exclusively to large insurers.
