Poverty decreased in 1994
Article Abstract:
The Census Bureau's survey of 60,000 households found that the percentage of people living in poverty decreased from 15.1% in 1993, to 14.5% in 1994, the first decline in five years. Medium income increased slightly as did the number of people with health insurance.

Personal income rose 1.3% in August
Article Abstract:
The Commerce Dept reported that personal income increased by 1.3% and that consumer spending rose 0.4% in Aug 1993. Statistics on economic indicators, sales of new homes, construction spending and the purchasing managers' index are presented.

The number of Americans living below the poverty line increased to 35.7 million in 1991, the highest since 1964. Median household income fell to $30,126 from $31,203 in 1990. The disparity between men's and women's wages increased.
