Consumer confidence and spending, along with increasing industrial capacity, are principal factors affecting demand in 1996, with decreased defense business the only weak area. Several stocks in this industry are timely for 1996, and may also offer price appreciation over the next three to five years.

Many of the stocks in the precision instrument industry are timely, with sales growth expected to continue generally at the same 17% rate registered in the last reporting month, Dec 1995. The growth should be steady through 1996 and well into 1997. Growth prospects are particularly good for weak markets in the Pacific Rim and in Europe. Longer-term prospect through 2001 are also favorable for some stocks.
