Predicting business failure of retail firms: an analysis using mixed industry models
Article Abstract:
Business failure remains a primary concern for firms, particularly for those in the retail industry, due an 18% occurrence in such firms from 1992 to 1993. The development of a model to predict failures would be invaluable to the industry in light of their exposure to risks and frequency of bankruptcies. The use of five models, based on financial ratios and cash flows, reveal that their efficiency in predicting business failures may be significantly affected by the choice of industry sample.
